2003 RECAP:

A thumb injury ended Adam Dunn’s season early, but by then, 2003 saw Adam Dunn’s average slip once again.  He hit only .215, and was on the pace for 170 strikeouts before he was sidelined.  He has great patience at the plate for a power hitter, and drawing triple-digit walks, but despite that and his power, he’s only managed to attain as many as 71 RBIs in a season.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH HIM IN 2004:

When he makes contact, the ball goes a mile.  When he doesn’t, the right field crowd at Great American Ballpark gets a gale-force wind.  He can launch tape-measure shots, but he needs to hold back a little bit in order to make more contact.  Dunn has to learn it doesn’t matter how far the ball goes over the wall, just as long as it makes him there.  He can shorten up his swing and hit 40 homers a year if he wants to.  With him being the only major threat in a lineup (unless Ken Griffey, Jr. stays healthy), he’ll need to make adjustments.

IS HE HALL OF FAME MATERIAL?

No, he’s a power hitter in the same mold as Greg Luzinski.  All-or-nothing, but more likely, nothing.
