2003 RECAP:

Aubrey Huff had the best offensive season in Devil Rays history in 2003, posting career highs in all major offensive categories.  He gave the Devil Rays a cornerstone on offense in his first full season, and he got stronger through the season.  His patience at the plate is at a good level for a player in his first full year.  At 27, he’s the first player Tampa Bay has had that has posted a great offensive season on the upswing of his career.  He moved to outfield from third base with no major problems, and can also play first base.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH HIM IN 2004:

With Rocco Baldelli and Carl Crawford in front of him, and Tino Martinez potentially providing protection, Huff could make himself a household name.  Better yet, Huff received a new three-year contract, so that means that Tampa Bay is committing more and more to the young players they’re developing.  If Huff doesn’t get complacent, and there’s no signs that he will, he can improve on his breakout season.

IS HE HALL OF FAME MATERIAL?

At 27, he’s a late bloomer – but if he piles up more .300-30-100 or better, he might be worth some consideration.
